For the Things You Don’t Want Hanging Around

About Us

Some household problems are annoying. Others are gross. A few make you wonder how something that small managed to cause so much trouble.

That is where LearnHowToGetRid.com comes in.

We are Andrea and Mike Dickinson, a husband-and-wife team with two very different kinds of experience.

Andrea knows stains, laundry mishaps, strange marks on furniture, stubborn bathroom buildup, unpleasant smells, and the kind of cleaning problems that usually start with, “I’ll just try this and see what happens.”

Mike knows pests.

Pest removal is his profession, which means his approach usually starts before anyone reaches for a spray, trap, or bait. He looks at what the pest is, why it showed up, where it may be entering, and what needs to change to keep the problem from coming back.

Together, we cover the things most people would rather not have in their homes in the first place.

Andrea Learned by Getting Things Wrong

Andrea did not learn stain removal in a classroom.

She learned by washing clothes, cleaning carpets, rescuing upholstery, dealing with spills, testing household remedies, and occasionally discovering that a popular cleaning trick can make a problem considerably worse.

Over the years, all that trial and error added up.

She became the person who checks the fabric before choosing a cleaner, blots before scrubbing, tests products somewhere hidden, and gets suspicious whenever someone claims one homemade mixture can clean absolutely everything.

Her articles focus on practical methods you can actually use at home.

She also writes about household bacteria, bathroom grime, kitchen cleaning, odors, and similar hygiene problems. When a subject moves into medical or specialist territory, she does not pretend personal cleaning experience makes her an expert in microbiology or health.

Sometimes knowing where your knowledge stops is just as useful as knowing how to remove a coffee stain.

Mike Starts With the Cause

Mike approaches household problems differently.

If ants keep appearing in the kitchen, he wants to know where they are entering.

If a mouse has been caught, he wants to know how it got inside.

If insects keep returning after treatment, he wants to know what is still attracting them.

That comes with working in pest removal professionally.

Mike writes about identifying pests, signs of infestation, entry points, food and water sources, traps, prevention, treatment methods, and the situations where DIY pest control has probably reached its limit.

His basic rule is simple: killing the pest you can see is not always the same thing as fixing the problem.

Why We Started LearnHowToGetRid.com

There is no shortage of advice online about cleaning stains or getting rid of pests.

The problem is that a surprising amount of it skips the details that actually matter.

A cleaning trick may work beautifully on one fabric and damage another. A pest treatment may kill a handful of insects without touching the colony. A bathroom stain may not even be the type of problem you thought it was.

We wanted a place where the first question was not simply, “What product should I use?”

It was:

What am I actually dealing with? Once you know that, choosing what to do becomes much easier.

What We Write About

Most of what you will find here falls into three areas:

Stain and household cleaning, usually written by Andrea

Bacteria-related household cleaning and hygiene, approached carefully and practically

Pest identification, removal, and prevention, usually written by Mike

Some subjects overlap. Homes have a habit of creating problems that refuse to fit neatly into categories.

When that happens, we use the perspective that makes the most sense.

We Prefer Practical Answers

We are not interested in turning every household problem into a complicated project.

If a simple method works, that is usually where we start.

We also do not believe stronger automatically means better. More cleaner does not always remove a stain faster, and more pesticide does not automatically mean better pest control.
